New Rains Stall Recovery in Himachal as Monsoon Toll Reaches 394

Fresh downpours are stalling restoration across blocked roads with more rain expected this week.

Overview

  • Authorities reported 394 deaths this monsoon, including 221 from rain-related incidents and 173 in road accidents, with 455 injured and 41 missing.
  • Dharamshala logged 232 mm of rain on Sunday as storms damaged homes and roads in several districts, including Hamirpur’s Sujanpur.
  • Road and utility outages persist with 568 roads shut, including three national highways, plus 373 power transformers and 188 water schemes disrupted.
  • Damage assessments cite 1,576 homes destroyed and 29,041 partially damaged, alongside major livestock losses of over 2,000 cattle and nearly 27,000 poultry.
  • The state pegs losses at more than Rs 4,467 crore led by PWD, Jal Shakti and power departments, while the IMD forecasts light to moderate rain through Sept 19–20 and the Centre has allocated ₹1,500 crore for relief.
