New Polls Show Spanberger Ahead as Virginia Races Tighten
Final pre-election survey arrives later this month, with early ballots already being cast.
Overview
- A new CNU Wason Center poll finds Abigail Spanberger leading Winsome Earle-Sears 52% to 42% among likely voters, down from a 12-point edge in September.
- A Washington Post–Schar School survey conducted Sept. 25–29 shows Spanberger ahead 55% to 43%, reinforcing Democrats’ statewide advantage.
- CNU also shows Democrats up in the lieutenant governor race (Ghazala Hashmi 48% to John Reid 39%) and attorney general race (Jay Jones 49% to Jason Miyares 43%), with some contests closer than earlier in the fall.
- The latest CNU polling concluded before publication of 2022 text messages in which AG nominee Jay Jones wrote violent remarks about ex–House Speaker Todd Gilbert, a revelation that drew criticism and prompted a new Earle-Sears ad urging voters to back Republicans.
- Early in-person voting began Sept. 19, the sitting president declined to endorse Earle-Sears during a Virginia rally she attended, and CNU plans a final poll in late October ahead of the Nov. 4 election.
