Overview
- Gov. Kathy Hochul announced a once-daily Metro-North round trip between Grand Central and Albany-Rensselaer beginning in spring 2026.
- The extension follows the Hudson Line past Poughkeepsie with stops at Rhinecliff and Hudson, adding roughly 80 miles to the route.
- The train is planned to depart Grand Central mid-morning for Albany-Rensselaer with a return to Grand Central in the afternoon, reviving a commuter link last run in 1967.
- Metro-North expects fixed-price fares targeted near the low end of Amtrak’s one-way prices, about $40, with final pricing still to be set.
- Amtrak will restore one Penn Station–Albany round trip on Dec. 1 and cap coach flex fares at $99 round trip as part of the coordinated plan.
