Overview

  • New Jersey secured a more than $2 billion settlement with DuPont and related companies, marking the largest environmental recovery ever obtained by a single U.S. state
  • The agreement resolves PFAS contamination at the Chambers Works, Parlin, Pompton Lakes Works and Repauno sites operated by DuPont
  • DuPont will provide over $1.2 billion in site-specific financial assurances while Corteva and New DuPont will establish a $475 million reserve fund to back up those obligations
  • The DuPont Defendants have also agreed to pay $875 million toward statewide PFAS abatement, natural resource damages and to reimburse state investigation and litigation expenses
  • Combined with a prior $450 million deal with 3M struck days before trial, the settlements have paused New Jersey’s first-of-its-kind PFAS trial in Camden
