New Jersey Reaches $2 Billion Agreement with DuPont, Chemours and Corteva Over PFAS Pollution

The deal dedicates $1.2 billion to remediating four contaminated industrial sites.

Overview

  • Under the consent order, DuPont, Chemours and Corteva will pay $875 million over 25 years for natural resource and other damages.
  • The settlement resolves all legacy PFAS contamination claims at Pompton Lakes Works, Parlin, Repauno and Chambers Works sites.
  • Cleanup work is scheduled to begin once a federal court approves the agreement.
  • Portions of the remediation fund will support public and private well owners and local governments in addressing PFAS in drinking water.
  • Combined with earlier settlements with 3M and Solvay, New Jersey’s total PFAS recoveries now approach $3 billion.
