New Jersey Man Injures Eight in New Year's Day Driving Rampage in NYC

Among the injured is 'Black Panther' actress Carrie Bernans; police find large quantity of crack cocaine in the driver's vehicle.

  • Mohamed Alaouie, 44, of Fort Lee, New Jersey, was arrested after driving his Mercedes onto a sidewalk in Midtown, New York City, injuring at least eight people, including two police officers and actress Carrie Bernans.
  • The incident began when Alaouie was seen physically assaulting his unidentified 34-year-old girlfriend inside his moving vehicle. When police tried to intervene, Alaouie sped off, hitting several cars and pedestrians.
  • Alaouie also hit a halal cart, trapping a 39-year-old woman beneath it. She survived with minor injuries.
  • Actress Carrie Bernans, known for her role in 'Black Panther', suffered several broken bones, fractures, and chipped teeth during the incident.
  • Police found a large quantity of crack cocaine in Alaouie's vehicle. He has been charged with attempted murder of a police officer, assault, reckless endangerment, drug possession, driving while intoxicated and driving while ability impaired.
