Indian-origin doctor Ritesh Kalra has been charged in New Jersey for allegedly prescribing opioids in exchange for sexual favors and committing healthcare fraud.

  • Federal prosecutors filed a five-count complaint accusing Dr. Ritesh Kalra of distributing oxycodone and promethazine with codeine outside legitimate medical practice in exchange for sexual favors.
  • The indictment also alleges he submitted false Medicaid claims by billing for in-person visits and counseling sessions that never occurred.
  • Between January 2019 and February 2025, Kalra wrote more than 31,000 opioid prescriptions, including days with more than 50 scripts, according to court documents.
  • Former employees say multiple female patients reported coerced sexual acts, including oral and forced anal sex, to secure prescriptions.
