New Haven Police Detail Double-Homicide Charge and Arrests in Separate August Killing

Overview

  • Sergio Thomas, 39, was identified as the alleged lone shooter in the Aug. 25 double homicide of Daiquan Hyman, 26, and Ernest Williams, 32, and was arrested Friday.
  • Thomas was arraigned Sept. 8 in New Haven Superior Court, where a judge kept his bond at $3 million after denying a request to reduce it.
  • Defense attorney Darnell Crosland says Thomas fired in self-defense to protect his younger brother, a claim police continue to investigate.
  • The double-homicide case was transferred to Part A Judicial District Court, with Thomas due back in court on Sept. 29.
  • In the separate Aug. 17 killing of 18-year-old Dillon Cornelius, police reported arrests of Wade Johnson on Aug. 27 on gun charges and Kareem Dixon on Sept. 3, and said additional arrests are being pursued; the department reports five of 13 homicides cleared this year.
