New Haven Home Shooting Leaves Two Dead in Apparent Murder-Suicide

Police identified Kerwin Romero as the suspected gunman in a domestic case that investigators say appears isolated.

Overview

  • Officers responding around 1:45 a.m. to a residence on Congress Avenue found Kerwin Romero, 41, and Jennifer Adams, 35, dead and a 38-year-old woman critically injured.
  • Police say Romero shot the two women during a domestic incident inside the home before turning the gun on himself.
  • Two children, ages 13 and 10, were inside the residence, were not physically hurt, and are receiving city support while in family care.
  • Detectives recovered a firearm at the scene that was not registered and not reported stolen at this time.
  • Authorities noted Romero’s prior arrests, including a 2012 New Haven shooting and a July 2025 domestic case in West Haven, and said specialized units are continuing the investigation with no ongoing threat to the public.
