• Jevon Castrillo, 30, received the handwritten letter in September 2025, shortly after becoming a father to a 3-month-old.
• The note, written by CeeCee Lyles in March 2001 to Castrillo’s kindergarten teacher, praised his reading, including the line, “He read it from cover to cover.”
• Former teacher Tammy Thurman kept the letter for 24 years while moving through multiple Lee County schools, with the original envelope missing but the page intact.
• WPTV reporter Jon Shainman helped facilitate delivery after the letter arrived at the station, and Thurman also shared a class photo and arranged a Zoom call.
• Lyles, a retired Fort Pierce police officer working as a flight attendant, died on United Flight 93; her final calls are preserved by the 9/11 Memorial and she is honored locally with a statue.
