New Emerson Poll Shows Prop. 50 Holding Slim Majority Ahead of Nov. 4 Vote

High-profile opposition has barely moved voters, according to the poll.

Overview

  • Fifty-one percent of California voters say they would approve Proposition 50, with support rising to 55% among those very likely to vote.
  • Proposition 50 would temporarily replace the citizen-drawn congressional map for 2026–2030, a move Democrats frame as a response to Republican remaps in Texas.
  • Arnold Schwarzenegger’s campaign against the measure registers little effect, with 66% saying it makes no difference, 22% more likely to support, and 12% less likely.
  • The Emerson College survey, conducted Sept. 15–16 among 1,000 active registered voters, reports a credibility interval of plus or minus 3 points.
  • In the 2026 governor primary snapshot, Katie Porter leads at 16%, followed by Steve Hilton at 10%, Chad Bianco at 8%, and Xavier Becerra at 5%, with Alex Padilla drawing 7% when included.
