New CPW Map Shows Collared Wolves Reaching Watersheds That Touch Metro Denver

The monthly CPW snapshot reflects GPS pings by watershed rather than continuous presence or headcounts.

Overview

  • Between Oct. 21 and Nov. 25, collared wolves entered watersheds that extend into Boulder, Jefferson, Adams and Broomfield counties and as far north as the Wyoming line.
  • Most recent activity clustered along the Continental Divide, with movements recorded near Walden, Granby, Vail, Aspen and Gunnison.
  • The map confirms only that at least one collared wolf visited any highlighted watershed at least once during the period, leaving uncertain how many wolves were involved or whether any remain near the metro.
  • Wolves were also detected near tribal lands to the south, with an existing CPW agreement with the Southern Ute Tribe and a similar pact in progress with the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe.
  • CPW lists 20 collared wolves in the program—15 translocated, three yearlings from the Copper Creek Pack and two adults from the One Ear Pack—and plans another reintroduction in January 2026 while encouraging public sighting reports.
