New Charge for Man Accused in NY Synagogue Shooting Incident

Mufid Fawaz Alkhader, previously charged for firearm possession, now faces additional charge related to the firearm's purchase.

Mufid Fawaz Alkhader, 28, was arrested for firing a shotgun outside Temple Israel in Albany, New York.
Alkhader, an Iraqi-born U.S. citizen, said 'Free Palestine' upon arrest and later told investigators he felt affected by events in the Middle East.
Initially charged with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person due to his admitted use of marijuana, Alkhader now faces an additional charge of conspiracy to make a false statement during the purchase of a firearm.
The new charge stems from Alkhader's recent purchase of the shotgun used in the shooting, which he had a friend buy for him because he believed he was ineligible due to a previous protective order.
No one was hurt in the incident.
