New Alabama Flood Advisories Issued as Michigan Thunderstorms Bring Hail, 50 mph Gusts

Overview

  • The National Weather Service issued a flood advisory for Mobile County on Friday from 3:56 p.m. to 7 p.m., warning of minor flooding and water over roadways.
  • Separate alerts in Michigan covered Ontonagon and Gogebic counties until 4 p.m. EDT Friday, with pea-sized hail and wind gusts up to 50 mph.
  • Jefferson County, Alabama, was under a flash flood warning Wednesday evening after radar showed 0.5 to 2 inches of rain with up to 1.5 inches more possible, indicating flash flooding was ongoing or imminent.
  • Earlier this week, additional flood advisories were posted for Fayette, Lamar, Tuscaloosa, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Talladega, Jefferson, Shelby, Montgomery, and Henry counties.
  • The weather service continues to urge the public to avoid driving through flooded roads and to use extra caution at night when flooding is harder to detect.
