New 4.1 Quake Near Cihuatlán Follows Two Days of Moderate Seismic Activity in Southern Mexico

  • On Oct. 28, Michoacán logged a magnitude 4.2 quake at 01:51:57, 102 km southwest of Ciudad Lázaro Cárdenas, with a depth of 17.8 km, according to the SSN.
  • That same morning, Chiapas recorded a magnitude 4.1 at 06:03:19, 203 km southwest of Mapastepec (15.5 km deep), and Oaxaca registered a magnitude 4.3 at 06:33:46, 28 km west of Matías Romero (98.1 km deep).
  • A day earlier, Chiapas saw the strongest recent event at magnitude 4.7 at 07:29, 81 km southwest of Mapastepec, followed by quakes of 4.1 near Tapachula at 11:00 and 4.0 near Huixtla at 23:46.
  • Additional Oct. 27 entries included a magnitude 4.0 near Pijijiapan, Chiapas (16 km deep), and a magnitude 4.0 near Sayula de Alemán, Veracruz (120.6 km deep), reflecting varied depths that influence felt intensity.
