New 2024 List Names Michigan’s Most Dangerous Intersections, With 19 of 20 in Metro Detroit

The rankings use state police crash reports to tally 2024 crashes within 200 feet of signalized intersections, four-way stops, roundabouts or ramps.

Overview

  • Warren’s 11 Mile/I-696 & Van Dyke ranks No. 1 with 185 crashes and 26 injuries, down from 218 crashes in 2023.
  • Five roundabouts made the top 20, reflecting heavy-traffic designs and locations near freeways or busy corridors.
  • Several ranked sites recorded 2024 fatalities, including 10 Mile & I-94 and 12 Mile & I-94 in St. Clair Shores and 11 Mile/I-696 & Hoover in Warren.
  • County lists show persistent hotspots: Schoolcraft & Telegraph in Redford remains Wayne County’s No. 1 for a fifth year, and Joy Rd at M‑39 leads Detroit with 78 crashes.
  • Only one statewide top‑20 location falls outside Metro Detroit: US‑131 & Wealthy in Grand Rapids with 73 crashes and 12 injuries.
