Nevada Teacher Charged in Decades-Long Abuse of Relatives and Other Minors

She is being held on $5 million bail pending a July 22 hearing that follows a July 10 district attorney’s pledge to pursue justice for child victims.

Overview

  • On July 2, 62-year-old Taji Hillson was arrested and charged with one count of sexual assault against a child under 14, an additional sexual assault count, and three counts of lewdness with a minor.
  • In a June 25 police interview, Hillson confessed to drugging her younger relative with Benadryl and sexually abusing her over decades, including after the victim returned from college in 2014.
  • She also admitted to inappropriate contact with a two-year-old neighbor in a community pool and with at least a dozen other minors, primarily family members.
  • Hillson served as a substitute physical education teacher at Roy Gomm Elementary School from September 2022 through June 2025, and authorities found no evidence of misconduct on school grounds.
  • Investigators corroborated her admissions with text messages and Washoe County Sheriff’s Office records detailing the drugging and touching of her relative.
