Netherlands Suspends State Control of Nexperia in Goodwill Gesture to China

The move follows talks in Beijing after Chinese export curbs on Nexperia chips strained Europe’s auto production.

Overview

  • Economy Minister Vincent Karremans said the September intervention is suspended, calling it a goodwill step taken in consultation with European and international partners.
  • Beijing had pressed for the rollback as a condition for fully resuming deliveries, after earlier easing some export restrictions in early November.
  • The Dutch takeover under the Goods Availability Act aimed to protect technology and production from being shifted to China by owner Wingtech, and it included removing Nexperia’s Chinese chief.
  • Supply pressures persist, with the VDA warning the situation remains tense as Bosch uses short-time work at several sites, ZF says it is covered only until mid‑next week, and Nissan has reduced output at two Japanese plants.
  • Nexperia’s widely used basic semiconductors are produced in Europe, including a Hamburg plant with roughly 1,600 employees, but many chips are sent to China for packaging before re‑export to European customers.
