Overview
- The Dutch Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team departed from Eindhoven on Friday and arrived overnight, with about 64–65 personnel, eight search dogs and roughly 16 tonnes of equipment.
- Two USAR rescue groups were put to work immediately and a base camp was installed on a baseball stadium parking lot in La Guaira between collapsed buildings.
- The government has allocated up to €2 million to fund the rapid deployment and to cover operational needs on the ground.
- Reported death tolls have risen and remain provisional, with coverage citing roughly 235 fatalities, while phone and power outages and reports of looting are making access and coordination harder.
- Other Kingdom territories and European states have offered help and the Dutch team may focus on finding survivors in the crucial first 48 hours and on coordinating international search-and-rescue efforts based on USAR’s prior major-mission experience.
