Netherlands Faces Heavy Weekend Travel Disruption From A10 East Shutdown and A16 Closure

Unplanned crashes, police operations and an extended bridge repair compound detours and delays across multiple provinces.

Overview

  • Rijkswaterstaat has closed the A10 Oost between Watergraafsmeer and Amstel for major maintenance until Monday morning 6 October at 05:00, with diversions via the A1, A9 and A2 and extra travel times of up to an hour.
  • The A16 is shut between Terbregseplein and Ridderkerk from Friday 20:00 to Monday 05:00 in the southbound direction, with warnings of long queues after heavy congestion during last weekend’s works.
  • Police are investigating a stabbing in a Shell station shop near Rhoon along the A15 and an overnight explosion that broke a window on Vlaardingen’s Fuutstraat; no arrests were reported and no injuries in the explosion.
  • A multi‑agency traffic control on the A7 near HoogkerkLeek involved police, the Belastingdienst, RDW and Customs, resulting in numerous fines, vehicle inspections and about €100,000 recovered by the tax authority.
  • ProRail’s repair of the Molenhoek railway bridge on the Heumensebaan remains delayed after the 12 September police car crash, with motorists detouring via Mook at least until after 8 October.
