Series faces lawsuit from Blanco's son for alleged unauthorized use of family's image and likeness.
- Netflix's new series 'Griselda' is a semi-fictionalized account of the life of Griselda Blanco, the 'Godmother of Cocaine', who rose to prominence in the violent drug wars in Miami in the 1970s and '80s.
- Blanco, born in Colombia, was allegedly responsible for the deaths of more than 200 people in Colombia, Florida, New York and California.
- The series explores Blanco's rise to power, her ruthless business tactics, and her personal life, including her relationships and her role as a mother.
- Blanco was eventually arrested in 1985 by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and charged with conspiring to manufacture, import and distribute cocaine. She served a 15-year sentence and was deported back to Colombia in 2004.
- Blanco's son Michael is currently suing Netflix and Sofia Vergara, who portrays Blanco in the series, claiming unauthorized use of their family's image and likeness.
