Netflix Will Stream 'Insecure' and Other HBO Shows in Surprise Licensing Deal

  • HBO's comedy-drama 'Insecure,' created by and starring Issa Rae, is now available to stream on Netflix, marking the first time an HBO show has been licensed to a rival platform in the U.S.
  • In addition to 'Insecure,' Netflix will also stream other HBO titles like 'Band of Brothers,' 'The Pacific,' 'Six Feet Under,' and 'Ballers' as part of the deal.
  • 'True Blood' will stream on Netflix for subscribers outside the U.S.
  • The licensing deal comes as Warner Bros. Discovery, which owns HBO, has been removing content from HBO Max and licensing shows to other platforms in an effort to cut costs and reach wider audiences.
  • While the deal is surprising, Warner Bros. Discovery believes the shows will be more valuable and reach more viewers as part of the Netflix library than exclusively on their own platform.
