Overview
- Netflix will disable its service on Amazon Fire TV Stick (2014), Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote (2014) and Fire TV (2014) devices starting June 3, 2025.
- Amazon ceased firmware updates for these first-generation devices, which lack support for Netflix’s AV1 codec used for higher-resolution streaming.
- Netflix has begun emailing affected users and implemented new error codes (R4, R12 and R25-1) to indicate unsupported hardware.
- Affected customers may be eligible for promotional discounts when upgrading to newer Fire TV Stick 4K or 4K Max models.
- Users can verify their device model by navigating to Settings > My Fire TV > About and should replace first-generation units before the June deadline.
