Netflix Starts Beta for Cloud-Streamed Games Inside Its TV App

A limited rollout in select countries uses smartphone controllers with cloud delivery to test simple, social titles without added fees.

Overview

  • Users can open a new Games tab in the Netflix TV app and link a phone via QR code to play.
  • Early availability is restricted to a small set of titles, with Oxenfree, Cozy Grove, Link Twin and Happy Gilmore Golf Mayhem visible in Germany.
  • Games stream from the cloud with no local downloads, enabling play on low-powered TVs and sticks given a solid internet connection.
  • Netflix says the test is limited to selected countries and a subset of subscribers, with PC play via web browser reported as part of the test.
  • The overall games catalogue is about 80 titles after recent removals, and CEO Greg Peters describes TV play as a shared living-room experience.
