Netflix Sets Oct. 3 Premiere for Galician Rural Comedy 'Animal'

The series offers a warm, family-friendly portrait of Galicia's countryside.

Overview

  • Luis Zahera stars as Antón, a village veterinarian, opposite Lucía Caraballo as his niece Uxía, who brings him into her Santiago pet boutique.
  • Alea Media produces with Aitor Gabilondo and Jota Aceytuno, and the series is directed by Víctor García León and Alberto de Toro, with García León also on the writing team.
  • The show was filmed entirely in Galicia, using locations around Santiago de Compostela and towns such as Dioño, A Calle, Pontemaceira, Parroquia, Teo and Vedra to create the fictional Topomorto.
  • Production featured real animals on set under veterinary guidance to ground the comedy in everyday pet care and rural life.
  • Netflix’s pre-launch push includes interviews with the cast and a scheduled appearance by Zahera on El Hormiguero, as coverage highlights his own account of early years working in New York.
