Netflix Rolls Out TV Party Games That Use Your Phone as the Controller

The move targets social play on the living room screen to boost engagement among subscribers.

  • Co-CEO Greg Peters announced the expansion at Bloomberg Screentime, with a phased rollout starting on select smart TVs and streaming devices ahead of a broader holiday push.
  • The first slate features five titles: LEGO Party!, Boggle Party, Pictionary: Game Night, Tetris Time Warp, and Party Crashers: Fool Your Friends.
  • Games launch from a new Games tab in the Netflix TV app, are included with a subscription, and require no extra downloads or dedicated controllers.
  • Players scan a QR code to use their iPhone or Android phone as the controller, with support currently limited to certain TVs and devices such as Roku and Fire TV.
  • Availability is limited to select countries at launch, including the US, Canada, the UK, parts of Europe, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, as Netflix scales up and emphasizes social gaming under new leadership.
