Overview
- Netflix began a limited U.S. rollout of AI Discover on Tuesday as a new Discover tab in its TV app that surfaces recommendations based on selectable themes such as “Something Light,” “Scare Me,” and “Family Movie Night.”
- The feature uses a Netflix-built “intelligence layer” to produce real-time suggestions from a user’s viewing history, preferences and trending titles rather than a chatbot interface.
- Every recommendation includes a “Tune Your Recommendations” control so viewers can keep or exclude a title and the tool will remember that feedback within AI Discover.
- AI Discover is initially available only to English-language profiles on supported smart TVs, excludes kids’ profiles, focuses on TV content in this first version, and Netflix says feedback from the feature will not drive programming decisions.
- Netflix calls the feature a “test kitchen” and plans to iterate and expand access in the coming weeks as part of efforts to stop slipping viewer engagement after recent layoffs and content-leadership changes.
