Overview
- Netflix published a trailer on October 15, 2026, and lists a three‑episode series called La caída de El Mayo for release on October 29, 2026.
- The film reconstructs Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada’s transfer to U.S. custody in July 2024 using interviews, unseen archival material, and hundreds of judicial files.
- The documentary highlights conflicting versions of the July 2024 transfer, including Zambada’s claim he was taken against his will and alternative journalistic and judicial accounts.
- Filmmakers trace how Zambada’s detention deepened a rift between Zambada‑linked La Mayiza and the Guzmán‑linked Los Chapitos and contributed to a rise in localized violence in Sinaloa.
- Directed by Darren Foster and Miguel Fernández Flores, the series frames open legal and diplomatic questions about U.S.‑Mexico cooperation and signals that key facts about the transfer remain unresolved.
