Overview

  • Support for Amazon Fire TV Stick (2014), Fire TV Stick with Alexa voice remote (2014) and Fire TV (2014) ceased on June 3, 2025
  • Netflix cited the older hardware’s inability to handle the AV1 codec used for higher-quality video streams
  • Users can confirm if their device is affected by going to Settings > My Fire TV > About on their Fire TV
  • First-generation Fire TV devices will still operate normally but will no longer grant access to Netflix
  • Industry analysts warn other streaming services could also drop support for aging devices lacking modern codecs
