Overview
- Netflix has begun notifying Spanish Basic plan customers by email that their subscriptions will be removed on September 1 and moved automatically to the ad-supported Standard package.
- The change ends the ad-free Basic option in Spain and leaves three plans: Standard with ads (€6.99), Standard without ads (€13.99) and Premium (€19.99).
- Subscribers forced off the Basic plan can upgrade to the higher-priced ad-free Standard or Premium tiers if they wish to avoid commercials.
- The Premium tier retains its features of four simultaneous streams, 4K HDR resolution and the ability to add up to two non-household members.
- This rollout follows similar phases in Canada and the U.K. earlier this quarter, with Netflix planning to extend the ad-supported strategy progressively to other markets including Mexico.
