Netflix Confirms IMAX Theatrical Release for Greta Gerwig’s 'Narnia' Adaptation

The highly anticipated film will debut in IMAX for a two-week global run starting Thanksgiving 2026 before streaming on Netflix.

Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos announced that Greta Gerwig’s 'The Chronicles of Narnia' will have a two-week IMAX-exclusive theatrical release in November 2026, followed by a Netflix debut in December 2026.
This marks one of Netflix’s most extensive theatrical commitments to date, with approximately 1,000 global IMAX locations planned for the release.
Sarandos emphasized that the IMAX release is a 'special event' and does not signal a broader shift in Netflix’s theatrical strategy, which remains focused on streaming-first exclusivity.
Production on the film is expected to begin in July 2025, though Sarandos’s comments suggest the timeline may not be firmly set yet.
Greta Gerwig, known for her success with 'Barbie,' is set to direct at least two installments of Netflix’s planned adaptations of C.S. Lewis’s seven-book series.
