Netflix Brings Free Party Games to TV for the First Time

Phones act as QR-paired controllers in a limited rollout to select countries.

  • Co-CEO Greg Peters unveiled TV play on Oct. 8 at the Bloomberg Screentime conference in Los Angeles.
  • Initial lineup features Boggle Party, Pictionary: Game Night, Tetris Time Warp and Lego Party.
  • The feature is rolling out to select users in the US, Canada, the UK, much of Europe, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Mexico.
  • On smart TVs or devices like Roku or Fire TV, the Netflix app serves as the display as players scan a QR code to pair phones as controllers that need not be signed in.
  • Netflix is emphasizing social and family play and says it is adding server capacity to support the expansion.
