Rebecca Sonnenshine, known for her work on 'The Vampire Diaries,' will serve as showrunner for the new adaptation, calling the books a personal inspiration.
Casting details have not yet been announced, and Netflix describes the project as a 'family and survival drama' reimagining the classic story.
