The series is set in 1997, following a soldier from the future sent back to protect a scientist named Malcolm Lee who is developing an AI system to compete with Skynet.
The show will feature a cast of new characters and is expected to provide a fresh take on the Terminator franchise, which has had mixed reception in its recent installments.
Mattson Tomlin, known for his work on Project Power and Mother/Android, will serve as the series' writer and showrunner, with Skydance also on board as executive producers.
The series does not have a confirmed release date yet, but it is part of Netflix's larger push for animated adaptations, which includes other projects like Cyberpunk Edgerunners, Skull Island, and an upcoming Tomb Raider series.
