Netflix Adds 4K Playback to Google Chrome on Supported Systems

Overview

• Netflix updated its support page on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, to confirm Google Chrome can stream Netflix in 4K on compatible systems.
• Chrome 4K playback is limited to Chrome on Windows 11 when the PC meets Netflix’s compatibility checks and to Chromebooks, and macOS, Linux and Windows 10 are not supported.
• Windows machines must meet specific hardware and codec rules such as Intel 7th Gen or newer or an AMD Ryzen CPU, an Nvidia GTX 1050 or AMD Radeon RX 400-series or newer GPU, HEVC support, current drivers, and a 4K60 display with HDCP 2.2.
• Microsoft Edge on Windows and Safari on macOS already offered web-based Netflix 4K, a difference that reflects how browser and operating system DRM, codec licensing, and driver support determine Ultra HD availability.
• The change removes the need for many Chrome users to switch browsers for 4K but leaves most users without compatible hardware or the right OS unable to access Ultra HD and could prompt some viewers to update devices or rely on Edge or Safari for 4K streaming.
