Nestlé Faces Legal Probe Over Illegal Mineral Water Treatments

A Paris court has launched an investigation into allegations that Nestlé used banned filtration methods to treat contaminated bottled water for over a decade.

  • Nestlé is under judicial investigation in France for 'deception' following allegations of illegal water treatment practices revealed by Le Monde and Radio France.
  • The case stems from a September 2024 complaint filed by the consumer advocacy group Foodwatch, accusing Nestlé of using banned techniques to purify contaminated water.
  • The prohibited methods, including microfiltration and UV filters, were reportedly used at Nestlé's Perrier plant in Vergèze and Vosges facilities supplying brands like Vittel and Contrex.
  • A December 2024 report from the Occitanie regional health agency indicates ongoing issues at the Perrier site, where production was partially halted, and millions of bottles were destroyed in April 2024.
  • Nestlé is also accused of attempting to block a Senate inquiry into industry practices by citing legal conflicts with the ongoing judicial proceedings.
