NEPRA Trims January Bills by Rs0.93 Per Unit as 2026 Average Tariff Set at Rs33.38

NEPRA says the January cut reflects lower November fuel costs.

Overview

  • Fuel price adjustment for November will reduce January electricity bills by Rs0.93 per unit nationwide, including Karachi, with lifeline consumers excluded.
  • The regulator has rebased the average base tariff for calendar year 2026 to Rs33.38 per unit, a Rs1.79 increase over the current Rs31.59, pending federal approval.
  • NEPRA notes the 2026 average is 62 paisa lower than the July–December 2025 rate despite being higher than the existing base.
  • Distribution companies’ 2026 financial requirement is estimated at Rs3,379 billion, including Rs2,923 billion for power procurement and Rs456.15 billion for operations and margins, based on projected sales of 101 billion units.
  • The reduction follows a CPPA request last week for a Rs0.72 per unit refund that reports said could deliver relief of more than Rs5.6 billion.
