Nepalese Suspect in Delhi Doctor’s Murder Shot Dead in Joint DelhiGurugram Police Encounter

Police describe the fugitive as the mastermind of a cross-border burglary ring that planted house helps in wealthy homes using fake IDs.

Overview

  • Officials identified the man as Bhim Bahadur (Mahabahadur) Jora, 39, who was fatally wounded during a late-night operation in Aastha Kunj Park and later declared dead at AIIMS Trauma Centre.
  • Police say Jora opened fire first, striking an inspector’s bulletproof vest, before officers returned fire in an operation coordinated by Gurugram Crime Branch and Delhi Police.
  • Jora carried a ₹1 lakh reward and had been wanted for the May 2024 killing of Dr Yogesh Chandra Paul in Jangpura and for a ₹20 lakh theft reported on October 2 at BJP leader Mamta Bharadwaj’s home in Gurugram.
  • Investigators earlier arrested alleged accomplice Yuvraj (Yubhraj) Thapa at Anand Vihar while he was trying to reach Nepal, and they say he admitted acting on Jora’s directions in the Gurugram burglary.
  • Police attribute to the gang a pattern of using forged Aadhaar cards to secure domestic work, drugging or restraining residents, fleeing to Nepal, and returning under new identities, and they recovered a pistol, cartridges, and house-breaking tools at the encounter site.
