Nepal Pavilion Opens, Completing All 84 at Osaka–Kansai Expo

Payment issues that stalled its construction were resolved in mid-June, allowing the self-built Type A pavilion to welcome visitors on July 19.

Overview

  • It opened at 12:30 PM on July 19, becoming the final pavilion to open among the expo’s 84 national and corporate exhibits.
  • Construction had paused in January after a Nepalese private company delayed payments to Japanese contractors.
  • Interior work resumed on June 16 once Nepal notified the Expo association that payment issues had been resolved.
  • The two-story Type A pavilion houses a ground-floor restaurant serving biryani and a gift shop, with about 50 Hindu and Buddhist exhibits on the second floor.
  • The opening ceremony featured Ambassador Durga Bahadur Subedi delivering a peace-themed address, and Nepal’s National Day at the expo is scheduled for July 28.
