Nepal Interim Cabinet Grows to Nine as President Appoints Five Ministers

The appointments strengthen the caretaker cabinet ahead of elections scheduled for March 2026.

Overview

  • President Ramchandra Paudel, acting on Prime Minister Sushila Karki’s recommendation, appointed Anil Kumar Sinha, Mahavir Pun, Sangita Kaushal Mishra, Jagadish Kharel and Madan Pariyar to the interim cabinet.
  • The five will take charge of Industry & Commerce, Education, Science & Technology, Health & Population, Information & Communication, and Agriculture, with their oath scheduled Monday at Rashtrapati Bhawan.
  • With the new inductions, the council now counts nine members, building on earlier posts held by Kulman Ghising (Energy), Rameshwor Khanal (Finance) and Om Prakash Aryal (Home).
  • An earlier report suggesting seven new ministers was overtaken by the official appointments, which confirm five additions with assigned portfolios.
  • The interim government also set up a high-level commission to probe killings, arson and vandalism during the Gen Z-led unrest as it readies for the next general election in March 2026.
