NEISD Superintendent Sean Maika to Resign in January 2026

The board plans to consider an interim appointment in December to steer the transition.

Overview

  • Maika announced Monday in a letter to staff, students and families that he will step down, with his last day expected on Jan. 16, 2026.
  • He has led North East ISD since 2019 after prior roles as assistant superintendent, executive director for school administration and principal of Harris Middle School.
  • In his message, he cited initiatives including a cybersecurity school, a partnership with NASA and repeated Forbes recognition as a top workplace.
  • Voters on Nov. 4 approved three bond propositions for infrastructure, technology and Blossom Athletic Center upgrades, while separate stadium and natatorium measures failed.
  • He gave no reason for his decision, and the district has recently navigated cellphone policy changes following HB 1481 and outreach from the Texas Education Agency and a state senator.
