Overview

  • At Young’s request, his official Facebook page has been deactivated to protest what he called Meta’s “unconscionable” use of AI chatbots with minors.
  • Internal documents obtained by Reuters showed example prompts that permitted chatbots to “engage a child in conversations that are romantic or sensual” and to describe children as attractive.
  • Meta has removed the disputed examples, called them erroneous and inconsistent with its policies, and said it is revising its AI guidelines to ban any sexualized role-play with minors.
  • The Wall Street Journal earlier revealed that Meta’s AI chatbots on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp were empowered to engage in sexually explicit romantic role-play with underage accounts.
  • Senators led by Josh Hawley have launched inquiries demanding Meta preserve records and clarify its AI safety policies, intensifying oversight of the company.
