Neighbors Rally After Dry Harbor Road Fire Devastates Local Businesses

An investigation into the fire’s origin is under way alongside community-led rebuilding efforts focused on improving fire safety.

Overview

  • On July 28, a four-alarm blaze swept through seven one-story shops on Dry Harbor Road and was brought under control by FDNY Division 14 at 12:25 a.m. after deploying 39 units and 168 firefighters.
  • Six firefighters sustained minor injuries and were treated at Elmhurst Hospital and Northwell Long Island Jewish Forest Hills.
  • Bubble Works Cleaners, Dry Harbor Wine & Spirits, Jade Bamboo, and Sudden Impulse Hairstyling and Barbershop were destroyed, while damage assessments for Matson’s Deli and Universal Boxing Gym are ongoing.
  • Local residents have organized volunteer and fundraising drives to support affected merchants and preserve the neighborhood’s commercial corridor.
  • Senator Joseph P. Addabbo is advocating the Residential Structure Fire Prevention Act to address cockloft fire hazards, and Council Member Robert Holden is coordinating aid for merchants rebuilding their storefronts.
