NEC Disburses Rs 76.78 Crore for Northeast Projects in December

The package directs money to connectivity, livelihoods, culture, education, research via state plus regional institutions.

Overview

  • Meghalaya received Rs 13.45 crore covering tourism infrastructure at Laitlyngkot, a Seng Khasi cultural complex in Shillong, an RCC G+4 commercial building at Iewdak Laban market, and multiple school buildings.
  • Under NESIDS (Roads), Rs 3 crore was released for improvements including the ShillongUmroi Airport road, a link projected to benefit about 10 villages with a population near 7,300.
  • Mizoram was allotted over Rs 4.89 crore for a fish farmer training centre at Lengpui, a Mizo cultural heritage centre at Kawlri in Serchhip, and IT-enabled mineral monitoring and resource mapping.
  • Regional and other agencies received Rs 26.47 crore for initiatives such as kiwi orchards, banana tissue culture units, pig breeding, high‑tech nurseries, smoked meat production units, GI registration of 166 crops and commodities, and student sponsorships for 91 boarders and 622 day scholars.
  • NEC reported completing a Model Handloom Production Centre at Marngar in Ri‑Bhoi at a cost of Rs 1.43 crore, alongside support for advanced research including 5G use‑case development and a socio‑ecological study of Sone Beel.
