Overview
- Coach Matt Rhule announced Saturday that UNLV transfer Anthony Colandrea will start Nebraska’s Sept. 5 season opener at home against Ohio.
- Colandrea was the Mountain West Player of the Year in 2025 after passing for 3,459 yards and 23 touchdowns and rushing for 649 yards and 10 touchdowns at UNLV.
- Rhule praised Colandrea as “very competitive” with a strong deep ball and the ability to extend plays with his legs, a trait Rhule said reduces pressure on the offensive line.
- The move fills the vacancy left by Dylan Raiola’s transfer to Oregon and comes during a roster rebuild that has included NFL departures and incoming transfers such as wide receiver Kwazi Gilmer.
- Nebraska will keep evaluating the roster in preseason practices as TJ Lateef and Danny Kaelin remain candidates for the No. 2 spot and depth behind Colandrea is not yet settled.
