Nebraska Athletic Director Trev Alberts Signs Contract Extension Through 2031

Alberts' Salary Doubles to $1.7M with Significant Retention Bonuses; Praised for Leadership and Achievements

Nebraska athletic director Trev Alberts has received a contract extension that doubles his salary to $1.7 million, increasing to $2.1 million in 2026, and keeps him at the school through 2031.
Alberts will receive a $500,000 retention bonus if he stays through September 2025, and an annual $300,000 retention bonus every following year he stays. He will also receive a $3 million bonus if he completes the entire eight-year agreement.
Alberts is credited with the hiring of football coach Matt Rhule and the organization of the 'Volleyball Day in Nebraska' event, which set a record for attendance at a women's sporting event.
He also secured a 15-year, $300 million multimedia rights agreement with Playfly Sports and is overseeing a $450 million renovation of Memorial Stadium, set to begin in 2024.
Outgoing Nebraska system president Ted Carter, who announced the deal, praised Alberts' leadership and stated that Alberts provides needed stability for Nebraska athletics.
