Nearly Two Tonnes of Plastic Cleared From Juhu Beach in Citizen Cleanup Ahead of Mumbai Climate Week

Organisers plan to recycle the recovered plastic into public amenities.

  • More than 400 volunteers gathered at Juhu Koliwada and collected 1,946 kg of plastic in under two hours.
  • The ‘Jallosh: Clean Coasts, Restore the Shore’ drive was led by Project Mumbai with UNICEF India and YuWaah’s Green Rising, supported by the BMC, Maharashtra’s State Climate Action Cell and Majhi Vasundhara.
  • Participants carried out waste segregation, shoreline restoration and sessions promoting sustainable lifestyles.
  • Organisers billed the effort as a curtain-raiser to Mumbai Climate Week set for February 17–19, 2026, announced by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
  • UNICEF and Project Mumbai leaders highlighted strong youth participation and linked the initiative to Mission LiFE and Global South climate collaboration goals.
