  • Official NHS data shows 1,960,640 EHIC, GHIC and Withdrawal Agreement cards will expire in 2025
  • Renewals are free on the NHS website and can be requested up to nine months before expiry
  • Since 2016 the UK has spent over £813 million under reciprocal healthcare agreements covering treatment for travellers abroad
  • Parents have just 24 hours to apply for GHICs if they want to receive them in time for the school summer holidays
  • GHIC and EHIC cover state emergency treatment in EEA countries and partners like Montenegro, Australia and Jersey but exclude repatriation, private care, cruise medical care and winter sports rescue
