Nearly Half of UK Holidaymakers Start Missing Home After Five Days, Survey Finds

  • The poll of 2,000 holidaymakers reports homesickness typically setting in around the fifth day of a trip.
  • Overall, 46% say they miss home comforts when away, with many packing familiar items such as tea bags (31%), towels (27%) and pillows (8%).
  • More than half (52%) consider returning home one of the best parts of a holiday, and 25% feel sad at the prospect of being away.
  • On arriving back, unpacking (56%) and laundry (47%) are among the first chores people tackle.
  • Three quarters say there is no place like home, with 38% wishing they could transport their home to their destination, 71% scheduling home‑only weekends and 43% taking leave to enjoy time at home.
