Nearly a Quarter of Buses in Germany Have Technical Defects

Despite technical issues, human error remains the leading cause of bus accidents, according to a TÜV report.

14.1% of buses failed the main inspection over the past two years, marking a 2.4% increase from 2022.
An additional 10.5% of buses exhibited minor defects, such as lighting issues and oil leaks in engines and drives.
Over 6,200 bus passengers were injured in traffic accidents in Germany in 2023, as reported by the Federal Statistical Office.

The report analyzed approximately 58,600 bus inspections from both local and long-distance services.
